Planning or attending a funeral?
Air Travel, Auto rental and Hotels Accommodations …

The last thing you want to think about is shopping around for airfares, hotel rates and auto rental rates in times of emergency when you have to fly for a family funeral, or to see a terminally ill relative.  

Many airlines, hotels and auto rental agencies have an answer for this - the bereavement fare, or compassionate fare, sympathy fare or funeral fare which is offered to family members traveling for a death in the family, or imminent death.
Here are a few facts to consider…

• They are last minute fares that can be booked right up until departure time.
• Available to family members traveling to a funeral.
• Available to family members in the case of imminent death, where a family member is deathly ill. .
• Generally flexible terms, permitting free changes and stays of up to 30 days with no minimum stay requirements.
• Usually, you can secure the discount prior to travel if you provide the required verification.
• Some airlines will only refund the value of the discount after travel is completed. However, all airlines that offer bereavement fares will allow you to apply for a refund after travel is completed.

Generally, price discount is 50 percent off full fare but the most encountered range is 10 to 75%.  

Most airlines’ policies on bereavement fares are different. In effect, if you need more than one airline to get to where you need to go, you will  need to buy separate tickets and ask about each airline's policy.

Because of the difficulty for the airline to verify information, there is less bereavement fares offered for traveling internationally.

Bereavement fares are offered over the phone or in person at the airline's ticket counters. However, since bereavement travel deal are considered "last minute deals  you may want to try Expedia.com: LAST MINUTE DEALS for Air, Ground and Hotel accommodations. They provide an excellent service.

Type of information that you are required to provide in order to secure a bereavement fare for an imminent death:

•The name of the person who is ill
•Your relationship to that person
•The name, address and phone number of the hospital or health care facility
•The name and phone number of the attending physician                         

Traveling for a family funeral:
	• The name of the deceased  • Your relationship to that person • The name, address and phone number funeral    home • Date of the service • A copy of the death certificate

Because you want to plan an unexpected trip right and for a low price, you would do well to include Expedia in your last minute plans for bereavement air travel, lodging and ground transportation before you make your final travel decision.
